Inkpot
Terms of Use
These terms cover using Inkpot. They are written in plain English, and they describe what the app actually does. If the terms and the app ever disagree, the app is the bug.
By using Inkpot you agree to what follows.
Effective 2 August 2026
The short version
- Inkpot teaches you one word a day. That part is free, forever.
- You can use it without an account. An account only exists so your progress survives a new phone.
- Pro is optional. Apple handles the money, and you cancel it through Apple.
- Be decent to the other people on the leaderboard.
- You can delete everything, from inside the app, at any time.
Who can use Inkpot
Anyone. Inkpot is built for all ages and deliberately works for children.
If you are under 13, the app takes a reduced path automatically: it does not ask you for an email address, it does not sell you anything, and it does not show you advertising. That is not a limitation we apply for fun — it is what the law requires, and it is described in the Privacy Policy.
If you are under 18, you should have a parent or guardian read these terms with you before buying anything.
Your account
You do not need one. Opening the app gives you a guest session, and everything that teaches you a word works without ever telling us who you are.
If you create an account:
- Your display name is yours while you hold it. Names are unique, and the database enforces that. Names cannot contain an
@. - Pick a name other people can see without wincing. Display names appear beside other people's on the leaderboard, some of whom are children. Names that are abusive, sexual, hateful, or that impersonate someone else may be removed, and the account with them.
- One person, one account. Creating extra accounts to occupy more of the leaderboard is not a clever trick; it is the thing that makes the leaderboard worthless for everybody else.
- You are responsible for keeping your login safe. We cannot see your password and cannot recover it for you.
Fair use
Do not:
- Attempt to break, overload, or probe the app or its servers.
- Automate play, forge progress, or otherwise manufacture a score you did not earn.
- Copy the word list, the definitions, or the artwork out of the app to republish elsewhere.
- Use Inkpot to harass anybody.
We can suspend or remove an account that does these things. We would rather not, and in practice a first offence gets a warning where a warning is possible.
Inkpot Pro
Pro is an optional auto-renewing subscription. What it currently includes is listed on the Pro screen in the app, and that list is the accurate one.
- Apple takes the payment, not us. Purchases are charged to your Apple ID at confirmation.
- It renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the end of the period.
- You cancel through Apple, in your Apple ID settings. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Refunds are Apple's to give. We cannot issue them. Apple's process is at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Prices can change. If they do, the change applies to future renewals and you will be told before it takes effect.
If a feature you paid for stops working, tell us — see [Getting in touch](#getting-in-touch).
What belongs to whom
The app is ours. The word list, the definitions, the mnemonics, the artwork, the mascot and the code are owned by Inkpot. Using the app gives you permission to use it personally — it does not transfer any of that to you.
Your progress is yours. Your streak, your collection and your display name belong to you, and you can erase all of it whenever you like.
The words themselves are, of course, the English language's. Nobody owns "ubiquitous". What is ours is the particular way this app explains it.
Things we cannot promise
Inkpot is a vocabulary app made by a very small team. Honestly:
- It will sometimes be unavailable. Servers go down and phones lose signal. The daily word works offline; the leaderboard does not.
- It is not an education provider. It will not certify anything, and it is not a substitute for schooling.
- Definitions are written for clarity, not for legal or medical precision. Do not rely on Inkpot to interpret a contract.
- Features change. Things get added, and occasionally something is removed because it was not working. Anything you have paid for that is withdrawn will be handled through Apple.
To the extent the law allows, Inkpot is provided as it is, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from using it. Nothing here limits rights you have that cannot be limited — in particular your statutory consumer rights, which vary by country and which these terms do not override.
Ending it
You can stop at any time. Delete your account from Profile and everything of yours is erased. That is a real deletion, not a flag.
We can stop too, if an account is being used in the ways listed under Fair use, or if we have to shut the service down. If Inkpot is ever discontinued, we will give notice in the app before it happens and will not take a subscription payment we know we cannot honour.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change materially, the app will say so before the change takes effect rather than quietly swapping the text. The effective date at the top always tells you which version you are reading.

Privacy questions have their own address, in the Privacy Policy.
Inkpot does not have a legal team. These terms are a plain-English, accurate description of how the app works and what we expect — not a document drafted by a lawyer. They are written to be honest rather than to be maximally protective.
